Faridabad/ Alive News: Holi is a most entertaining festival of India. It is also known as festival of colors as we play with colors at this festival. It is a Hindu festival celebrated with lots of joy by the Hindu people all over India as well as abroad where Hindu population is found. It could be the colours or the noise or the fan fare and good cheer all around, but Holi has its share of foods that could be harmful to you.
To stay safe and healthy, Dr Shailesh Jain says a list of items to specifically avoid, ensuring that your Holi is only about the colours and fun.

Foods, you should avoid on Holi:

  1. Onion Bhajiya
Although its ingredients are onion and gram flour, the excessive oil used to fry it could lead to a weak stomach, something which is never good, let alone during festivals.
  2. Boondi ka Laddoo
Diabetics and heart patients must know by now that consuming this is beyond risky. With high amounts of dalda and ghee, this sugary round sweet is laden with calories too, and must be avoided if the heart is to be taken care of.
  3. Besan Burfi
Sugar, fats, and besan in a burfi. If your workouts have earned you this right, you may consider having some. For the weight-trackers though, this is completely off their allowed list.
  4. Gujja
Cardiac patients and diabetics must stay away. If dieting, you must have the restraint and knowledge to gauge for yourself.
  5. Khastha dal Kachchori
Deep fried in lots of oil, this heavy snack item has spices, clarified butter, and refined flour. This excess could coagulate your heart’s functions in the long term, and thus these are best avoided.
  6. Thandai
Milk, ghee, spices, poppyseed, black peppercorns, aniseed, cannabis leaves, and rose petals form the veritable danger of a potion that is thandai. This is to be consumed with caution. Keep away from it and you’ll be safe.
  7. Puran Poli
Its lentil composition would make you believe it’s a healthy choice but it also uses a lot of oil that could harm your system.
  8. Bhaang
Similar to thandai, this drink too is highly intoxicating and impacts your nervous system and body functions.
  9. Kanji ke Vade
Split black lentils or urad dal is fermented and drenched in mustard combining to be highly intoxicating. Mustard oil is also used to make these deep-fried dumplings that will also damage your calorie plan.
  10. Saffron Syrup
Although it is primarily a cold drink, it is potent as an intoxicant if you have too much. It’s extremely sweet with high sugar content, together making it a food to be avoided.

Practice Holi safely in your home or wherever you go, keeping in mind these simple ideals and enjoy it as a danger-free, fun-filled, joyous time with your celebratory companions.
